Replace a Vanity Light Fixture 01

Kitchen And Bathroom Renovation : Replace a Vanity Light Fixture 01

The first thing I did in my new home (besides put in new door locks) was switch out the dullsville light fixtures in the bathrooms. A high-design light fixture can add a new dimension of style to your bathroom.

CONSIDER THIS

• The first rule of any electric project is to shut off the power from the service panel (breaker or fuse box). Turning the light switch to the off position does not off er enough protection. Switches are accidentally flipped on or other live wires may be in the fixture’s electric box, which is why shutting off power from the service panel is crucial for your safety.
• After the power is off at the panel, be sure that no one will turn on the power as you’re working.
• If you’re unsure which breaker or fuse controls your bathroom fi xture, here’s what to do: Working with a partner, turn the light on and begin flipping breaker switches on and off as your partner monitors the light. When the light shuts off , have him yell to you. Then mark the breaker.
• With any electric project, once the power is off at the panel, recheck the box itself with an electric tester. To ensure that the tester itself is working properly, first check the power cord plugged into a live outlet and see if the tester signals electricity.
• When choosing a new fixture, make sure that it will fit in the space you have and will provide you with ample
lighting. Check the maximum wattage on the new fixture you’re considering.
