Frame a Vanity Mirror 03

Kitchen And Bathroom Renovation : Frame a Vanity Mirror 03

THE PROJECT: Mitered corners

1. Measure the length of the lower edge of the mirror and add 1⁄4 inch to that measurement.

2. Cut a clean mitered edge on one of your molding lengths. Remember to note the top and bottom of the molding. Keep in mind that the long point of the miter cut will be the actual length of the mirror plus 1⁄8 inch overhang on each side (to hide the mirror’s side edge).
3. With a tape measure, starting from the long point of the miter cut, mark your measurement on the molding with a pencil.
4. Using that mark as the long point of the miter cut, cut your second corner.

5. Dry-fi t the lower length and make any necessary adjustments.
6. Apply adhesive to the molding in a squiggly line. Do not put adhesive more than 1⁄2 inch from the inside mirror edge. The adhesive will dry clear, but you still may see traces of it in the mirror’s reflection. Also, allow room for adhesive to spread as you press the molding in place.
7. Press the molding onto the bottom of the mirror. Wipe away any excess.
8. Take another measurement for your two side lengths adding 1⁄8 inch to that measurement.
9. Follow Steps 2–7 to install the side moldings.
10. For the top molding, measure and mark the distance between the side lengths. Dry-fi t it, making any adjustments. Glue, press in place, and wipe away any excess.
