How To Fix a Leaky Showerhead Part 01

Kitchen And Bathroom Renovation : How To Fix a Leaky Showerhead Part 01

When your showerhead is leaking from its connection to the shower arm, the fix is as easy as a new washer and couple of spins of Teflon tape.

CONSIDER

It is very important not to force the showerhead loose. Doing so could crack or strip the showerhead nut. Even worse, forcing could cause you to loosen the shower arm from the pipe behind the wall. If the head seems stuck, spray down the nut with penetrating oil and let it soak for a while. Along the same line, do not over-tighten the showerhead. Over-tightening could crack the fi tting or compress the washer to a point that it will no longer hold a seal.

PREPARATION

• Spray down the showerhead fi tting with penetrating oil.
• Wrap the pliers and wrench jaws with masking tape to avoid scratching the metal on the showerhead.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED

12-inch tongue-and-groove pliers
Pipe wrench*
Penetrating oil
Masking tape
Replacement O-ring or washer
Rag
Teflon tape or pipe putty
