How To Secure a Loose or Hollow Floor Tile 02

Kitchen And Bathroom Renovation : How To Secure a Loose or Hollow Floor Tile 02

PREP WORK

Tap around the tile with the mallet and identify what part of the tile is loose or hollow.

THE PROJECT

1. Drill holes in the grout joints around the tile, concentrating around the area that is failing. Be careful not to drill the tile itself. Drill slightly past the tile depth—you’ll probably feel once you’ve gone through the grout. Four to eight holes will suffice.

2. Vacuum out all loose debris—actually put the vacuum nozzle over each hole.
3. Inject the repair adhesive directly into each hole by putting the tip right down into the drilled hole. Tap the tile with the mallet to ensure the product is settling deep in there.

4. Wipe away any excess with a wet rag.
5. Place a heavy object over the tile and follow the recommended drying time. Be sure to follow all manufacturer’s instructions.
6. When completely dry, grout with matching grout color.
