How To Replace a Loose Soap Dish Part 03

Kitchen And Bathroom Renovation : How To Replace a Loose Soap Dish Part 03

HOW TO

After you’ve identified the type of soap dish you have and removed it, here’s how to reinstall it. Just be sure that the surface is dry and clean of debris.

SURFACE MOUNT

1.With the mounting surface cleared of old adhesive and debris, apply some silicone caulking around the bracket on the wall and then to the back of the dish.
2. Carefully tap the soap dish back on the bracket with a rubber mallet, making sure that it’s snug on the
bracket. Make sure that it’s level. Wait 24 hours before you begin the next step.
3. Caulk or grout around the dish, and wait another 24 hours for the grout or caulk to dry before using the
tub.

TILE-IN

1. With the opening clear of debris and any raised bumps of old adhesive, spread a thin coat of tile adhesive on the wall with the short end of a trowel or small putty knife, and then mark grooves in it.

2. On the back of the soap dish, smear a thin layer of adhesive on the grooves.
3. Firmly press the soap dish in place. Wipe away any adhesive that may ooze out of the joints. Make sure
that it’s level.
4. Place one long strip of masking tape horizontally across the face of the dish, and then two strips vertically over the face of it to secure it to the wall while drying for 24 hours.

5. After drying, remove the tape and grout the joints. Use your finger to smear the grout around the joints.
Then wipe away the excess with a damp sponge. Wait another 24 hours for the grout to dry before using
the tub.

Preventing Bathtub Slips and Falls

Numerous slip-and-fall accidents in showers and tubs occur yearly—often involving trips to the emergency room. These accidents are especially prevalent with seniors and children. I highly recommend using a no-skid product to minimize slipperiness. Though I’m not a big fan of those stick-on decals, some products are very effective and not at all unsightly; NO-Slip Treatment is one of them. It increases grip by bonding microscopic particles to a surface, but it will not visibly change the color or texture. A no-skid product can be applied to many fl oors as well and is a total do-it-yourself project.
